LOVE, Ralph. Temecula Shack

18" x 24"; oil on canvas; signed. California artist Ralph Love b. 1907 in Los Angeles, d. 1992. At the age of 17 he owned his own sign shop where jobs ranged from gold leaf printing to billboards. Later in life he bacame a pastor and evangelist. Though primarily a self-taught artist, he studied with artist Sam Hyde Harris for a year. Love later taught art at the Laguna Beach School of Art and Design and was often a guest teacher in Pescadero. Grand Canyon and desert landscape scenes are some of his most popular pieces were featured in "Arizona Life" magazine. Arizona Senator, Barry Goldwater, owned several of Love's paintings. A letter from Goldwater states, "…Love is the finest living American painter I know, and I could look at his work all day long." Love's paintings can be seen in the Palm Desert Museum, the historical Mission Inn in Riverside, Northern Arizona Museum, Route 66 Museum, as well as countless others. [Hughes]
