18"x22"; oil on board; signed. Hungarian painter b. 1882, d. 1963. Darling studied art for eight years at the Royal Academy of Budapest and then at Paris Ecole des Beaux-Arts. After immigrating to New York in 1910, he established himself as a portrait painter. At the start of W.W.I Darling moved to California and began work as a supervising art director to Fox Studios, where he received three Oscars and many nominations for his settings. He painted landscapes, cowboy and Indian scenes, and general Southwest scenes. [Hughes] . |
